The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the Monkeypox Vaccine Equity Pilot programme to support non-traditional and innovative ways to address disparities in the monkeypox vaccination.
The US CDC said that the local, the state, and the territorial health departments, along with the tribal governments and the local non-governmental organisations can merge together and start submitting requests to access monkeypox vaccine through the programme.
This new programme is intended to reach the population, which may face barriers to monkeypox vaccination, which might also include differences in language, vaccine hesitancy, and location of vaccination sites, mistrust of government, disability issues, stigma, and immigration status.
Rochelle Walensky, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stated that they have a responsibility to address inequities that may have highlighted by the monkeypox outbreak, and this pilot programme will also help make a difference.
According to US CDC, around 50,000 doses of JYNNEOS monkeypox vaccine have been allocated for the Monkeypox Vaccine Equity Pilot programme. According to latest data from the US CDC, a total of 22,774 monkeypox cases had been confirmed in the United States of America.
