US Judge: Apple Should Ease Rules of App Store

TECHNOLOGY

On Friday, 10th September 2021, a United States federal judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, have struck down some of the rules of Apple App Store, which will be forcing the company to give permission to the app developers for sending their users to the other payment systems in the partial win for the company ‘Fortnite’, who is the developer of Epic Games along with several other app developers.

But the judge does not require the company ‘Apple’ for letting the app developers to use their own in-app payment systems, which has also been one of the requests from Epic Games and the judge has also allowed Apple to charge the commissions of 15 percent to 30 percent for the Apple’s own in-app payment system.

Epic said, it is going to appeal the ruling, and the CEO of Epic said, the ruling is not a win for the app developers or also for the consumers, and these results have left the rival and critics of Apple saying that, they are more likely to turn to the legislators instead of courts for the purpose of pursuing the changes, which they are seeking.

The district judge of the United States has also described the ruling as a measured change to the App Store rules of Apple, and the analyst said, the impact of this ruling may largely be depending on how the company chooses to implement the decision of the court, and with this ruling, the shares of Apple had been decreased by 3.2 percent.
