HEALTHCARE

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States has now approved a fifth corona virus vaccine booster shot developed by the companies including Moderna or Pfizer and BioNTech for the people, who are over 50 years of age and also in some of the immune-compromised individuals.

Previously, the US FDA has also authorized a single corona virus vaccine booster dose for certain immune-compromised people followed by the completion of primary covid-19 vaccination series of three doses.

This new approval is now going to make a second booster dose of the covid-19 vaccines that are available to the other populations at high risks for the serious disease, death and hospitalization. The fifth dose of the novel corona virus vaccine booster shoot can possibly be administered to the people who are 50 years of age and above at least four months after receiving their fourth corona virus vaccine booster shot of any of the authorized corona virus vaccine.

The people, who are above 12 years of age and are having weaker immune system are also eligible for the covid-19 vaccine shots at least four months after their fifth corona virus booster shot.

The current novel corona virus vaccines had been developed against the original covid-19 virus, which had emerged in China in 2019 because of which the effectiveness of these vaccines has been decreased over the time as the new mutations of the novel corona virus emerge across the globe.
