US FDA Approved Eye Drop that Could Eliminate Reading Glasses Need

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States a new type of eye drop which could eliminate the need of the people for reading glasses. According to reports, FDA recently approved the use of an eye drop designed to improve age-related vision.

The eye drop, called Vuity, is applied to each eye once in a day and it starts working within 15 minutes of the application, and the producers said each drop lasts for around six hours. Report says the drug is a formulation of a compound called as pilocarpine.

The researchers behind Vuity has designed the eye drop to allow for the eye drop to rapidly adjust to the pH of the tear film. The eye drop take advantage of the ability of the eye to decrease pupil size, and improving near-vision while maintaining distance vision.

The drop is found to be most effective for the people between the ages of 40 years and 55 years. The report said results have come from two randomized control trials on approximately 750 subjects. During the studies, Vuity was observed to begin working within 15 minutes of application.

The drops had been found to result in no severe side effects, although some patients have experienced eye redness and mild headaches.
