Tesla’s Elon Musk Presents Humanoid Robot ‘Optimus’

TECHNOLOGY

Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, has presented the latest prototype of a humanoid robot being developed by the Tesla electric car company. The robot Optimus appeared on stage at a Silicon Valley event, where it waved to the audience and also raised its knees.

Elon Musk said that the robot was a work-in-progress but could be on sale to the public in a span of years. The mass-market robots from Tesla will be tested by working some jobs in the car factories. According to the engineers of Tesla, there was wheeled on stage during an annual artificial intelligence (AI) day presentation by Tesla.

According to reports, people were shown a video of Optimus performing simple tasks such as watering plants, carrying boxes, and also lifting metal bars. Elon Musk said that it is really a fundamental transformation of civilization as they know it.

Financial analysts and investors have expressed scepticism that Tesla will turn to robotics, and advised Tesla to focus on projects closer to its core business. But Elon Musk said that he wanted to solve one of the biggest problems of artificial intelligence. He added that they always wanted to be careful they did not go down the path of the Terminator.
