R&B Vocal Harmony Girl Band FLO Wins Brits Rising Star Award

ENTERTAINMENT

The R&B vocal harmony group FLO has won the Brits rising star award. The girl band’s debut single, Cardboard Box, was only released in March 2022; nevertheless, the band’s retro-styled sound has received immediate praise.

The band, consisting of singers Renee Downer, Stella Quaresma, and Jorja Douglas, first met at the Sylvia Young Stage School and was formed in 2021. The Brits’ rising star award went to FLO, the first band ever to do so. Adele, Sam Fender, and Florence + the Machine have all received this honor in the past.

Holly Humberstone, a singer and songwriter, won the award the previous year. Along with Jungle artist Nia Archives and torch singer Cat Burns, who had a country number two hit, the girl band FLO was up for a nomination.

The band is also on the BBC’s Sound Of 2023 longlist and was nominated for best newcomer at the Mobo Awards last week. FLO said that winning a Brit award so soon after releasing their debut album made them both happy and surprised.
