Portugal Beat Switzerland 6-1 to Advance into World Cup Quarterfinals

SPORTS

With Portugal’s star player Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench, Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 to advance into the World Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement in the game has scored three goals for his country.

Goncalo Ramos, a 21-year-old Portuguese forward who made his international debut last month, made his first start for Portugal and has demonstrated the kind of clinical finishing that Cristiano Ronaldo was once known for. Goncalo Ramos scored the opening goal in the 17th minute of the game, and scored other two goals in the 51st and 67th minutes of the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo entered the game as a substitute in the 72nd minute, though Portugal had the game wrapped up with defenders Raphael Guerreiro and Pepe also scoring for the country. Rafael Leao has scored the 6th goal in stoppage time.

Portugal has advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time, after 1966 and 2006, and Portugal will play against Morocco on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
