Joe Biden: Air India, Boeing Deal to Create 1,100 Jobs in the US

Joe Biden, president of the United States said that, the historic Air India-Boeing agreement will further strengthen bilateral ties and lead to the creation of up to 1 million jobs in 44 US states.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, a significant agreement was made between Boeing and Air India. As part of the agreement, the Tata Group-owned airline will acquire 190 B737 MAX, 20 B787, and 10 B777X, totaling 220 firm orders that are worth USD 34 billion at list price.

Customers will also have the option to purchase an additional 50 Boeing 737 MAX and 20 Boeing 787, making a total of 290 aircraft and costing USD 45.9 billion at list price. Biden stated that he was looking forward to strengthening ties between India and the United States as they discussed the historic agreement with Prime Minister Modi.

In the call, Joe Biden said that this purchase will support over one million jobs in 44 states across the United States, many of which will not require a four-year college degree. The Air India order is Boeing’s third-largest sale ever, both in terms of dollar value and plane count.

The two leaders also reaffirmed the strength of the relationship between the United States and India during and pledged to continue working together and in groups like the Quad to advance economic growth for our two nations and to expand cooperation on our shared priorities.

This announcement comes after the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) was officially launched a month ago.

After their meeting in Tokyo in May 2022, US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that they would elevate and expand the strategic technology partnership and defense industrial cooperation between their governments, businesses, and academic institutions. iCET is being launched under their direction.
