SPORTS

Leigh Griffiths, a former Scotland and Celtic striker, was questioned by police about sports gambling. The 32-year-old footballer confirmed that the officers visited his South Lanarkshire residence. He was taken to Glasgow’s London Road police station by the officers.

Leigh Griffiths denied any wrongdoing and stated that he had not been arrested. The striker also declined to discuss the questioning. On December 1, 2022, according to a police spokesperson, a pre-planned operation was carried out.

In a statement, the police said that three men aged 32, 35, and 37 were also arrested on December 1, 2022, during a planned police operation, in connection with an investigation into alleged gambling incidents in sports in Bonnyrigg, Bothwell, and Airdie. The statement says that pending further investigation, all three men were released without charge.

With Celtic, Leigh Griffiths won three Scottish Cups, four League Cups, and seven league titles. In 2017, he earned a spot in the Scottish national team by scoring two free kicks in a 2-2 draw with England at Hampden. He has been without a club for six months, but he is currently training with Livingston.
