Facebook to Restrict Advertisements Targeting Under-18 Users

On Tuesday, 27th July 2021, the social media giant Facebook said, it is going to stop the advertisers from targeting the users, who are under 18 years of age on the basis of their activity on the other social media sites, and there had also been several announcements about the young users from the company ‘Facebook’.

The new decision from Facebook means that, the advertisers are soon going to be able to send the targeted ads to the under 18 years users only on the basis of their age, gender and location on Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

Instagram said, it had been implementing the change because it agrees with the advocates for youth that, many young people might not be equipped for making decisions about the targeting, and spokesman of Facebook said, there are going to be no changes to the data of the users collected by the company.

The company Facebook also said that, the users of Instagram, who are under 16 years of age are going to be defaulted into having a private account, whenever they will join the platform of Instagram, and this is going to be done in an effort for stopping the unwanted contacts of the under-age user to adults.

On 27th July 2021, the company said, it had been working on ‘Instagram experience for teens’, and the company said, the idea of an application focused in the young users is made for the purpose of providing their parents some greater transparency along with controls on the children, who want to access Instagram.
