Argentina football team forward Nicolas Gonzalez will be out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 because of an injury he suffered in training on Thursday, November 17, 2022, Argentina’s football federation (AFA) said.

24-year-old Nicolas Gonzalez, who is also a forward for the club Fiorentina, tore a muscle and has been withdrawn from the team’s list for the World Cup, the AFA said. After the warmup game of Argentina against UAE, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said that some players are not 100 percent fit, and they also have few small problems.

Nicolas Gonzalez was one of the players who did not play the game in Abu Dhabi as Argentina has extended their unbeaten streak to 36 matches. Argentina will be facing Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, in their first Group C game, followed by Poland and Mexico.

Just like Gonzalez, another forward, Sadio Mane, who represents Senegal has been ruled out of the tournament as his recovery from injury was not favourable. Sadio Mane was injured while playing for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and the injury was not considered serious at first, but he was hit on the leg that caused the forward a little nerve pain.

Dino Toppmoeller, assistant coach of Bayern Munich, said that the injury is not serious and he would be available for the FIFA World Cup, but after some tests, conducted by Senegal team doctor Manuel Afonso, Sadio Mane has been withdrawn from the tournament. Manuel Afonso added that the MRI results has shown that Sadio Mane’s recovery is not favourable.

Senegal has been grouped alongside Ecuador, the Netherlands, and Qatar. Senegal will take on the Netherlands in the opening FIFA World Cup game on November 21st, 2022.
