US: House of Representatives Passed Legislation for Science Research Competitiveness with China

On Monday, 28th June 2021, the House of Representatives of the United States of America has passed a legislation, that is going to be boosting the scientific research in an effort for making the United States more competitive than China.

The lawmakers of the United States of America have passed two bills on the basis on a bipartisan for the purpose of increasing the funding for the US National Science Foundation and also for establishing a new directorate for the science and technology for the expansion of the opportunities for research, along with the giving authorization to the research for the Department of the Office of Science.

Eddie Bernice Johnson, chairman of House Science, Space and Technology Committee of US said, they must boost the funding for science significantly, and for many years, they have allowed the funding of millions of dollars for the excellent research. He also added that, they are now at a critical juncture in the country’s history, and they are also needing to be more focused on the role of science in the country.

Michael Waltz, Republican Representative said, it has been very critical that, they are going to strike the correct balance between keeping their research enterprise open, but also providing protection to the research enterprise from the adversaries, who have been largely seeking to take the advantage of their open system.

The legislation is also including the provisions for increasing the diplomatic pressure on China, which generally includes making a diplomatic boycott mandatory at the 2022 Olympic Games Scheduled in Beijing, China.
